Foundation receives "Special Recognition" Award as Entertainment Sponsor for Community Services Day
The September 12, 2009 Community Services Day marked the 5th Anniversary of a popular event whose purpose is to promote services available to community residents. Community Services Day is hosted by the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District, Deerfield and Bannockburn Police Departments, Deerfield Park District, and the Village of Deerfield. Many local community service agencies and clubs participated. The venue remains free of charge to the public through generous contributions from Astellas Pharma US, Inc., The John Buck Company, and the Deerfield Park Foundation. Food For Thought Catering contributed lunches for the event workers.
The Deerfield Park Foundation was presented with a "Special Recognition" plaque for "five years of Committed Support to this Community Event." The plaque, which depicts newspaper photos and a story about the event, will be displayed proudly at Jewett Park Community Center. Entertainment, demonstrations, information, and give-away items were available for individuals of all ages. The event takes place each year in September at Brickyards Park/Patty Turner Senior Center, from 12-4 pm.
Community Services Day is held rain or shine with indoor and/or outdoor venues including police canine, safety and other demonstrations; interactive educational exhibits; inflatable rides; “Touch-a-Truck;” magician and balloon twisters; blood pressure check ups; cholesterol and glucose testing; and a special competition between area mascots. This year, a new DUI simulated driving experience was added. An Art Tent, manned by 6th grade volunteers from Bannockburn School and sponsored by the PTOs of School District 109, was once again a hit. Watch for next year's event details during mid-2010.
